Jediah Hill Covered Bridge
Location Information:
Built in 1850, the Jediah Hill Covered Bridge is a historic bridge (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) near Winton Woods in Hamilton County, Ohio. It is a one lane wooden bridge, although it has been updated to allow for automobile use, it does have the same visual appearance from most angles that it had in late 1800s, except for some guard rail, a low clearance sign and streetlight. The bridge was designed by and named after architect Jediah Hill, who lived and worked in the greater Cincinnati area.
If you are meeting here for a portrait photography or wildlife photography class, we may visit 2 additional Winton Woods locations that are often good for wildlife and nature photography as well as portraits. For those who like walking/hiking, one of these locations is a on a trail that is approximately 1 mile long although we will not walk the entire length of the trail (we will use about 10% - 15% of the trail), you are welcome to walk/hike as much of the trail as you would like. If you are attending a photo walk at this location and would like to visit the other two location please ask your instructor and if there is time and other interested participants, your instruct will be happy to take you to them.

Attire:
Although you can photograph the bridge from the road but most students venture down to the creek. The creek may be a few feet deep, completely dry or anything in between and has never been a problem at this location. It has always possible to walk out into the water or on large rocks and pieces of concrete that are in the creek if you do not want to get wet. The hike down to the creek is short about 50 feet but it is downhill in a heavily overgrown area. Like most wooded areas in the Cincinnati area, there is the possibility of Poison Ivy in some places but no students has ever reported getting Poison Ivy at this location. Dress appropriately for these conditions plus the expected weather conditions. We strongly recommend closed toe shoes or boots.
Boots are a good idea, dress shoes and open toe shoes are a bad idea.
